Hvammsvík Art Centre

Bringing art forward

The Art Centre regularly hosts exhibitions, with pieces from our collection as well as curated exhibitions with works that form a unison around a specific concept or theme.

The Art Centre is located close to Reykjavík and surrounded with the breath taking views of Icelandic nature, making it the perfect place for contemplation and get inspiration from the works of men and nature alike.

Our aim is to making the enjoyment of art available to the public and to nurture both current and up-and-coming talent in the local Icelandic art scene. In addition, we aim to showcase and honour past masters, who's shoulders current artists stand on.

As a part of the Art Centre concept, we have dedicated part of our accommodation, The Art Lodges, to Icelandic artists. Each lodge is named after an artist and features his or hers artwork. In addition to that, pieces from our collection are in regular rotation between different buildings on the Hvammsvík Estate.

We will regularly host resident artists who's art will be displayed on our estate.

Icelandic Art

Our aim is to bring Icelandic art in front of people in a comfortable environment where our guests can relax and contemplate the creations of our artists.

The largest portion of our collection is by contemporary Icelandic artists (such as Ólafur Elíasson, Shoplifter, Hildur Jónsson, Jón Sæmundur and Ragnar Kjartansson) and past masters such as Jóhannes Kjarval, Birgir Andrésson, Svavar Guðnason and Alfreð Flóki.

In addition, part of our collection features works by artists from around the world. Amongst them are Chuck Close, Andy Warhol and Marc Sijan.
