About Hvammsvík
Nature Resort

An Overview

Hvammsvík is a family owned estate consisting of 1200 acres of land. It is situated in the middle of Hvalfjörður “Whale Fjord” – a historic and remote fjord in the Soutwest of Iceland, yet only a 45 minute drive from Reykjavik city center and close to many of Icelands biggest attractions, such as The Golden Circle, Glymur, Thingvellir, Esjan and many more. Hvammsvík offers privacy in dramatic Icelandic landscapes while still being easily accessible all year round from Reykjavik.

In Harmony with Nature

Our aim at Hvammsvík Nature Resort & Hot Springs is to give our guests an authentic Icelandic nature experience.

We want to share Hvammsvík with like minded people to enjoy in harmony with nature and the wildlife. Our greatest wish is that our guests leave happy and replenished by the energy of the place, wanting to come back and share the experience with friends and family.

The History

The estate is a historical landmark that was first discovered by the vikings 1000 years ago as recorded in Landnáma, the Icelandic book of settlers, dating back to the 11th century.

During World War II Hvammsvík was taken over by the allied forces as their naval headquarters in Iceland. At its peak there were almost 40.000 soldiers here and over 200 ships moored in the fjord. During the War Hvammsvík was code named “Falcon Crest” and “Falcon Beach” in order not to reveal its true location.
